Sentence Particles

À, Nhé, Nha, Nào, Đi, Mà

Tiny words at the end of sentences that add politeness, emphasis, connection, and emotional tone.

Nhé / Nha: Gentle Suggestion or Agreement

Softens commands, makes requests gentler, seeks agreement.

Em đi nhé.

You should go, okay? (gentle suggestion)

Ăn cơm nha!

Eat, okay! (friendly command, seeking agreement)

À: Realization, Clarification, Question

Marks discovery, seeks clarification, or softens questions.

À, tôi hiểu rồi!

Ah, I understand now! (realization)

Em đi đâu à?

Where are you going? (casual, curious question)

Đi: Encouragement, Urging

Encourages action, like English "come on" or "go ahead".

Ăn đi!

Go ahead and eat! / Eat! (encouraging)

Nói đi!

Say it! / Speak up! (urging)

Mà: "But" or Connector

Connects contrasting ideas or adds emphasis.

Tôi thích mà!

I DO like it! (emphatic)

Em nói gì mà tôi không hiểu?

What are you saying that I don't understand?

Nào: "Let's" or Emphasis

Suggests collective action or adds rhetorical emphasis.

Đi nào!

Let's go!

Ăn nào!

Let's eat!

Combining Particles

Particles can be stacked for nuance:

Đi nào!

Let's go! (collective encouragement)

Ăn đi mà!

Go ahead and eat! (urging + emphasis)

Em đi nhé!

You should go, okay? (gentle + agreement-seeking)
